THE OPPORTUNITY

Central Jersey Housing Resource Center is a HUD-certified, 501(c) 3 housing counseling agency dedicated to serving Central New Jersey for over 30 years. Our mission is to assist households in their pursuit of affordable housing through comprehensive programs, including the distribution of Section 8 vouchers, state rental assistance, and guidance for securing market-rate units. We actively engage with community partners and employ outreach strategies to maximize our impact and promote our essential services.

We are looking for an Executive Director who is ready to roll up their sleeves and grow with us.

Central Jersey Housing Resource Center is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

THE ROLE

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director leads and manages all operations of the housing counseling agency, ensures effective delivery of services; oversees and coordinates programs aimed at helping families access affordable housing options; prepares and manages grant applications to secure funding for agency initiatives and programs; promotes agency services through targeted outreach efforts, including social media strategies; and ensures compliance with HUD standards and regulations while collaborating with local organizations to address community housing needs.

2027 DEVELOPMENT PRIORITIES

Grants, Contracts and Corporate Giving

Meaningfully increase the number of grants we apply for annually. Better categorize and differentiate sponsorships, grants, and donations to maximize each channel.

  • Manage the full grants calendar, LOIs, proposals, and reporting.
  • Develop and execute a corporate engagement strategy including volunteer events and group giving.
  • We are targeting a 20–30% year-over-year growth across all fundraising channels.
Events

CJHRC will host one signature Housing Event annually, preferably during the Month of April (Housing Month), requiring Board involvement and strong community turnout.

Systems and Data: Getting the House in Order

Ensure compliance with record retention policies established by agency commitments and contractual obligations; and further ensure that every donation flows cleanly into a reliable software system with accurate tagging, complete historical records, and high quality data — all built to support outreach.

BOARD PARTNERSHIP

The Executive Director works hand-in-hand with the Board of Directors — equipping members to be effective ambassadors, managing their donor networks, and leading the Development Committee. You will also support Board recruitment, with a focus on growing the Board’s outreach and fundraising capacity.

COMMUNICATIONS & MARKETING

You will serve as the voice of CJHRC externally — writing or overseeing donor communications, newsletters, e-blasts, social media, and print collateral. For a lean team, this means a willingness to get in and do the work directly, not just manage it.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (preferred) in non-profit management, business administration or related fields
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Clear understanding of HUD regulations and programs, including housing counseling services
  • Highly self-motivated with strong project management skills; able to manage multiple priorities without losing attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with clients and community partners
  • 5+ years of nonprofit development experience, with a track record of growing individual, corporate, and/or event revenue
  • Experience in grant writing and fundraising to support agency operations
  • Exceptional relationship builder — warm, persistent, and professional
  • A genuine belief in the mission of Central Jersey Housing Resource Center and the communities we serve
  • Experience managing a small team is a plus

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Salary: $90,000 – $100,000
  • A competitive benefits package
  • Paid time off
